 Located at the southeast coast of Zhejiang, as a southern center city of Wenzhou metropolis with convenient transportation, Rui'an is an important transportation hinge city for the southern part of Zhejiang and the northern part of Fujian, Covering a land area of 1,271 square kilometers and sea area of 3,037square kilometers with the total population of 1,141,000. It belongs to subtopical monsoon climate and annual average temperature is up to 18℃. It is one of the birthplace of "Wenzhou Economic Patterns". In 2006, the comprehensive economic strength of Rui'an ranks 42nd of the hundred rural economic powers. Rui'an is favorably endowed with beautiful landscape. Here, the vast sea and oddly-shaped hills and peaks meet and interwine with each other. It is a typical city with water and mountains and the scenic area occupies 20.8% of the total area. At present, there are seven places of interest, such as Zhailiao Brook, Tongxi Reservoir, Tongpan Island, Meilong Brook etc. There are ten tour spots, such as Linyang Water Town, Yuhai Cultural Sightseeing Area, Jiangxilongtan, Shanhuang Old Stockaded Village etc. There are four national important cultural relic protection units, such as Huayan National Forest Park, Yuhai Building, Shipeng Tombs, Shengjingshan Stone Palace, Liji Medical School etc. Nature sight and humanistic landscape match with each other richly and colorfully.
The history of Rui'an can be traced back as far as possible, it is a famous his torical cultural city, being the hometown of the Southern drama of China, the hometown of Drum Word. During the Three Kingdom Period in 239 AD, 1760 years has passed since the county was first set up. In the historic development of several thousand years Rui'an has formed a cultural system with clear regional characteristics. Here, in the favorable academic atmosphere developed through the year, lots of outstandings were born here such as Chen Fuliang, Ye Shi, the forerunner of "Yongjia School"; Gao Zecheng, the founder of "Southern Drama"(a kind of local drama); and Sun Yirang, great master of Confucian studies during the Qing Dyn-asty. In this vast fertile land throughout the history, the influence of history will remain forever.
